Cavatini

A delicious comfort dish packed with pasta, meat, cheese, and sauce, this Cavatini recipe is sure to impress.

Ingredients
  

  • 3 cups assorted short-cut pasta (e.g., elbow macaroni, shells)
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 4 ounce can of mushrooms (pieces & stems) about ½ cup mushrooms, small or sliced
  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • ½ cup green pepper, chopped
  • 5 cans (8 ounces each) tomato sauce
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • ½ cup black olives, sliced
  • 6 ounces pepperoni, sliced
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded divided
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded divided

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan and set aside.
  2. Cook pasta according to package directions; drain and set aside.
  3. In a skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Add onion, green pepper, and mushrooms, cooking 5-10 minutes until vegetables are softened.
  4. Stir in tomato sauce, olives, sugar, salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, and pepperoni. Simmer for 5 minutes. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.
  5. Combine the sauce mixture, 1/2 cup of each cheese with pasta, then spread into the prepared pan. Top with the remaining two cheeses.
  6. Bake for 25 minutes, until bubbly and cheese is melted. Enjoy!
